Dogs in Sweaters!
The other day, I posted the following message to Twitter: “Yes, I would love to see a picture of your dog in a Christmas sweater.”  Many thought I was being sarcastic, but these people have obviously never seen a dog in a sweater.  Check this out: If that’s not the best, then I don’t know what.  Look, I understand the problem with forcing dogs to wear sweaters.  (And you...

Here is the excellent time travel film Primer in its entirety.  Director Shane Carruth uploaded it, so this isn’t some kind of piracy situation.  Enjoy.

David Sims has been running some excellent retrospectives of Seinfeld episodes over at the A.V. Club.  I particularly appreciate his astute tracking of how the actors find the ensemble rhythm through the course of the show.  There’s never been a better ensemble rhythm on TV.

Consider the Northern Exposure
I’ve been re-watching Northern Exposure on DVD for the second or third time.  Every time, I’m reminded why this is my favorite show. It isn’t the best show.  As far as playing to the unique strengths of serialized TV, nothing has come close to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Deadwood may have had the best writing on the small screen.  Seinfeld is definitely the most consistently...

Sugar and Spice
Thanks to a person, I’ve recently started reading the poetry of Russell Edson.  I normally don’t read poetry, since a lot of it seems like some kind of lazy scam.  But his stuff is good.  Here’s one: “Sweet Tooth”          A little girl made of sugar and spice and everything nice was eaten by someone with a sweet tooth the size of an elephant’s tusk.          Ah,...

“As for the taste? Very good, actually! The carbonation was scaled back, which I...”
– I don’t know what inverted cane sugar is, but I can vouch for BevReview.com’s opinion of Jones Orange Cola.  Clean taste, indeed!  Please, please note: this is orange-flavored cola soda.  Not simply orange soda.  Wrap your head around that, and you’ll be fine.

Another Kind of Porn
If you’re interested in clothes, there are few more engrossing sites than The Sartorialist.  Though the stream suffers from occasional dips into runway stuff that isn’t very interesting, it’s mostly a steady flow of portraits taken on the street.  These are people who look great in surprising ways.  Or they’re people who look great in unsurprising ways that we...

WatchWatch
This is The Life of the World to Come, a performance film starring The Mountain Goats and directed by Rian Johnson.  Both wonderful things.  I was fortunate enough to host a screening of this film recently, so I can assure you it’s worth your time.  The embed comes from Pitchfork, and it’s viewable for one week only.  So, if you’ve stumbled across this in the future and...

Consider the Headphones
A confluence of events forced me to watch a movie in my office rather than on the living room couch as usual.  This is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. First, the office is smaller, more confined.  The windows are mostly covered.  When the lights go out, they truly go out. Sitting close to a monitor approximates the relative proportions of a larger, proper television. ...
